Hi, this is kind of a broad question but I would say some of the biggest issues you need to be aware of when running a news operation are the possibility of getting sued for defamation if you publish defamatory content in your newspaper, privacy torts (usually involving improperly exposing someone's personal information or subjecting them to public scrutiny) and potentially for breach of confidentiality if any of your reporters reports something that they aren't privileged or protected by the first amendment to report on (this is broad so probably less of a concern). It's kind of hard to give you advice on a macro level for those issues but I would say priority number one if you are creating a newspaper is to make sure you are incorporated correctly so that you are insulated from personal liability. In terms of running your newspaper's operations try to report the facts accurately and edit and fact check for potentially damaging content against others.
